A large number of schools across Wales and the South West are closed tomorrow (February 18) because of Storm Eunice.
Following a rare Met Office red weather warning – the highest level – several local authorities have announced school closures as a precaution for the safety of staff and students.
Somerset County Council (SCC) has closed all schools, colleges and nurseries; schools have also been closed in parts of Wales, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Bristol. Schools are advised to move to online learning for the day.
A warning on the SCC website states:
“All schools, early years, colleges and other Council services across Somerset will be closed tomorrow (Friday 18 February) due to ‘Do not travel’ red weather warnings in place from 7am to midday.
“A red-weather warning is the highest alert and has been issued for parts of South-West England with Storm Eunice expected to bring gusts of up to 90mph meaning there is a real danger to life from flying debris.
“Education leaders have been asked to provide online education, where possible.
